I'll wait until I receive any further replies before I delve into the new world, for me at least, of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Does that make sense?ĬCleaner and RKill from Bleeping Computers - Probably best if I leave those until I have more time to try and understand or do find something unwanted or, better still, buy an up to date PC!

i-malware/ and (decline the 'free trial') as you suggest? I ask as I don't want any conflict with the ESET antivirus but I think that the malwarebytes-anti-malware download may be run as an additional precaution. Should I download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware version 2.2 from the link you provided here. Scrap that as I've now seen your follow-up reply which confirms it is something else (with a similar name).

Malwarebytes full scan - Is this using or something different? I have seen that its malware detection ratio protection may not be great.

However, I do have and am happy to continue paying for ESET® NOD32® ANTIVIRUS 9 which I hope is some sort of equivalent to Defender.

Much of the terminology I use may well be incorrect and I do realise I didn't give you much to go on.ĪdwCleaner - This being the I've now been using?ĭefender full scan - I've never used Windows Defender and have only now looked it up and it appears to be a built in antivirus (this machine will not support Windows 10, nor 8 I think, and is an extremely old and unsupported version of XP Home). All somewhat beyond me but if you can bear with me that would be much appreciated. Okay, a useful list of what you do, thank you. TBH, if it's that bad I look for the OEM recovery partition and do a 'factory reset'. For stubborn 'nasties' there's RKill from Bleeping Computers, it doesn't remove anything, but it kills known malware processes that try to block the scanners. The routine is AdwCleaner, Defender full scan, Malwarebytes full scan then a cautious use of CCleaner to clear out orphaned registry keys - rinse and repeat until clean. Some of my kit is second hand, then the answer is 'as soon as I buy it'. I've looked up one or two of them and they seem to be adware so nothing sinister, hopefully. Plus there are about 130 of these (I'm only including the first 15): I can't find that any new program has been added to my computer.ĭoes my attempt at explaining what I've done so far make any sense?Īs a record, perhaps for me, the Logfile of Folders & Files contains:įolder Found: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpointįolder Found: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Yahoo! As you know, I'm technically incompetent and don't understand what no installation required means. I've accessed the link which suggests I needed to download AdwCleaner to make it function - which I've done. and AdwCleaner (no installation required)
